  7. L<SUP><SMALL>A</SMALL></SUP>T<SMALL>E</SMALL>X2<SUB>e</SUB><#26#><#26#> is the consolidation step in a comprehensive
  8. reimplementation of the L<SUP><SMALL>A</SMALL></SUP>T<SMALL>E</SMALL>X<#27#><#27#> system.  The next major release of
  9. L<SUP><SMALL>A</SMALL></SUP>T<SMALL>E</SMALL>X<#28#><#28#> will be L<SUP><SMALL>A</SMALL></SUP>T<SMALL>E</SMALL>X3, which will include a radical overhaul of the
  10. document designers' and package writers' interface to L<SUP><SMALL>A</SMALL></SUP>T<SMALL>E</SMALL>X.

  12. L<SUP><SMALL>A</SMALL></SUP>T<SMALL>E</SMALL>X3 is a long-term research project but, until it is completed,
  13. the project team are committed to the active maintenance of L<SUP><SMALL>A</SMALL></SUP>T<SMALL>E</SMALL>X2<SUB>e</SUB><#29#><#29#>.
  14. Thus the experience gained from the production and maintenance of
  15. L<SUP><SMALL>A</SMALL></SUP>T<SMALL>E</SMALL>X2<SUB>e</SUB><#30#><#30#> will be a major influence on the design of L<SUP><SMALL>A</SMALL></SUP>T<SMALL>E</SMALL>X3.

  17. If you would like to support the project then you are welcome to send
  18. donations to the L<SUP><SMALL>A</SMALL></SUP>T<SMALL>E</SMALL>X3 Project Fund; this has been set up to help
  19. the research team by financing various expenses associated with this
  20. voluntary work of maintaining the current L<SUP><SMALL>A</SMALL></SUP>T<SMALL>E</SMALL>X<#31#><#31#> and developing
  21. L<SUP><SMALL>A</SMALL></SUP>T<SMALL>E</SMALL>X3.
